  • Destination: The White House

Yesterday, Will and I were given a tour of the West side of The White House. It was really amazing and incredible! Being inside is something that I never considered possible for myself. We were only able to take pictures in 3 locations, but we saw tons: The Oval Room, the Roosevelt Room, Jumbos, where the "Situation Room" is, the Million Dollar Wall, The Rose Garden, The Press Room, etc. One of my ultimate favorite things I saw was a picture of President Bush laughing. In the hallways, they have huge prints of photographs taken of our President living life. Some are of him doing business and wearing a tie, while others encompass his joy while playing with his dogs or flyfishing. President Bush has four photographers that follow him around and take these pictures of him, and The White House switches them out almost weekly. These large photographs that line the halls are called "Jumbos." My favorite one was a close up of President George W. Bush laughing after he probably chain-sawed a large muddy tree. His face and shirt were splattered with mud and dirt. He looked so happy and full of joy. I couldn't get the image out of my head the rest of the day. I know after leaving The White House, you're probably supposed to fill more bold and full of political power, but I left wishing I could hang out with our President at his ranch for a day, listening to crazy stories and watching him live life passionately.

  • Destination: Arlington Cemetery

Will and I had an amazing weekend! On Saturday, we were able to spend some time at the Arlington Cemetery and see the changing of the guards. I had no idea how massive the cemetery actually was. They say they have an average of 27 burials daily. The picture above is the cross engraved on the top of a tombstone.

After going to the Arlington Cemetery, we took the metro to the Holocaust Museum. Unfortunately, it was filled up for the day. We were still able to enter and go through 2 small exhibits, but we left soon after. Below: Will and I took a picture on the street corner.

This picture is taken in Lafayette Square, which is a small park in front of The White House. We ate pizza in the park...

  • Destination: The Jefferson Memorial

Towards the end of last week, we spent one afternoon at the Jefferson Memorial. With the exception of the very last picture on this blog, I shot all these pictures. The Jefferson Memorial was absolutely beautiful and the columns were magnificent! The last picture is of the Washington Monument, and Will took the picture with my camera on our walk back to the hotel.
